Patriots vs. Bengals

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 September 2006 at 11:06 am

The Patriots really need a win bad as they haven’t looked good all season.  The Bengals look to continue rolling.

Look for the Patriots to come out running the football against the Bengals.  Corey Dillon (169 yards) and Laurence Maroney (169 yards) will attack the soft middle of the Bengals defense (113.3 yards allowed rushing per game).  If the Patriots establish the running game, look for Brady to take a couple of shots deep.  Brady will also try to spread the ball around and find a mis-match he can exploit.

The Bengals will attempt to pound Rudi Johnson (288 yards rushing) at the interior of the Patriots defense.  Carson Palmer will then run play-action and try to go deep to his wide array of great WRs.

This game will be a changing of the guard in the AFC, as the Bengals are gonna drop the hammer on the Patriots!

Patriots lose tough game 17-7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 26 September 2006 at 12:39 am

The Patriots running game grinded to a halt Sunday night and Tom Brady didn’t have enough magic in his arm to bring the Pats back.  Tom Brady completed 31 of 55 passes for 320 yards and a TD.  Laurence Maroney had a tough night running the ball carrying the rock 12 times for 18 yards, but he did catch 5 passes for 61 yards.  Corey Dillon carried the ball 5 times for 16 yards.  TE Ben Watson caught 6 passes for 66 yards.  WR Doug Gabriel caught 6 passes for 65 yards and a TD, Reche Caldwell caught 3 passes for 46 yards and Troy Brown caught 4 passes for 41 yards.  RB Kevin Faulk caught 6 passes for 34 yards.

The Patriots defense got run over by a train!  The Broncos ran the ball 34 times for 144 yards (4.2 ypc).  The Broncos completed 50% of their passes for 256 net yards passing.

Patriots vs. Broncos

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 September 2006 at 3:12 pm

Both of these teams have great running games and struggling star QBs, we’ll see which QB steps up on Sunday night.

The Broncos will try to run the ball against a rugged New England run defense that is only allowing 75 yards per game and 3.1 yards per carry.  RB Tatum Bell (172 yards) and Mike Bell (102 yards) have been good so far.  Jake Plummer is having a rough season, his QB rating is 38.6 with 0 TDs and 4 INT.  Plummer must have a good game or this game will be over quickly.  WR Javon Walker (8 rec, 120 yards) could have some success against the Patriots secondary.

The Patriots will try to pound the Broncos into submission with their 2 headed running back.  Corey Dillon (153 rushing yards) and Laurence Maroney (151 rushing yards) have been outstanding this season.  The Broncos D-Line is made up of Cleveland rejects who are having problems stopping the run (135 yards per game)!  QB Tom Brady really doesn’t have a go-to receiver anymore, so he’ll be content to spread the ball around.

The Patriots will thump the Broncos on Sunday night.

Patriots hold off Jets 24-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 6:40 pm

The Patriots had a 17-0 lead and the Jets almost came all the way back. Tom Brady completed 15 of 29 passes (51.7%) for 220 yards with a TD and a INT. RB Corey Dillon ran the ball 20 times for 80 yards (4.0 ypc) and a TD. Rookie RB Laurence Maroney carried the ball 16 times for 65 yards (4.1 ypc) and a TD. WR Troy Brown caught 4 passes for 51 yards (12.8 avg) and rookie WR Chad Jackson caught 2 passes for 42 yards (21.0 avg) and a TD.

The Patriots defense stuffed the Jets running game holding them to 51 yards rushing and only 2.1 yards per carry. The Jets were throwing all over the field against the Pats connecting on 59.5% of their passes for 286 net yards thru the air. DE Ty Warren had another huge game collecting 11 tackles. Tedy Bruschi had 6 tackles and a pick-off to seal the victory for the Patriots.

It hasn’t been pretty, but the Patriots are 2-0.

Tedy Bruschi to play on Sunday

Blogged under Big Pats News,Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 2:14 am

Bruschi has practiced for three consecutive days now.  Look for the defense to play even better this week with the inspirational leader of the team back in the huddle.

Patriots vs. Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 12:25 am

The Patriots unleashed a powerful running attack on the Buffalo Bills last week, rolling up 183 yards on the ground.  Look for Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon to attack the interior of the Jets defense.  Also look for Tom Brady to throw the ball more frequently this week.  The Patriots really don’t have a deep threat to run play-action off of, but Brady should be able to complete a ton of short passes to multiple receivers this week.

The Jets would like to run the ball, but Derrick Blaylock, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston will have rough sledding against the interior of the Pats’ defense.  Chad Pennington will try to duplicate his performance of last week against the Titans, but it will be tougher for him against the Patriots secondary.

I look for the Jets to play a tough game, but the Patriots are still vastly superior talen-wise to the Jets and it will show on the scoreboard.

Patriots trade Deion Branch to the Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 September 2006 at 8:22 pm

The Patriots traded their top receiver from last season Deion Branch to the Seahawks for Seattle’s first round pick in 2007.  It will be a low pick because the Seahawks are a good team.  This was a bad decision by Belichick, and Tom Brady can’t possibly be happy right now.  The Patriots better keep running the ball well, because they’re receiving corps will be weak all season long.

Patriots defense and running game propel them to 19-17 victory

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 5:24 pm

It almost seemed like the Patriots were sleepwalking yesterday and still beat the Bills.  Tom Brady didn’t play that great connecting on 11 of 23 passes (47.8%) for 163 yards with 2 TDs and an interception.  Rookie RB Laurence Maroney carried the ball 17 times for 86 yards (5.1 ypc).  Corey Dillon also had a good game carrying the ball 16 times for 73 yards (4.6 ypc) and catching 2 passes for 22 yards.  Old vet Kevin Faulk carried the ball 3 times for 21 yards and caught 1 pass for 17 yards and it was a TD.  TE Ben Watson caught 3 passes for 50 yards and Troy Brown caught 2 passes for 18 yards and a TD.

Junior Seau looked good and had 8 tackles.  Mike Vrabel also had 8 tackles.  The safeties were all over the field too.  Rodney Harrison had 9 tackles and Eugene Wilson had 8.  DE Ty Warren essentially won the game for the Pats when he sacked QB JP Losman in the end-zone to give the Pats their final two points of the contest.

The Bills ran for 99 yards on 24 carries (4.1 ypc).  The Pats allowed the Bills to complete 65.2% of their passes but only for 140 net yards thru the air.

The game was ugly, but still a win for the Patriots.
