Tedy Bruschi to play on Sunday

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Pats News by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 2:14 am

Bruschi has practiced for three consecutive days now.  Look for the defense to play even better this week with the inspirational leader of the team back in the huddle.

Patriots vs. Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 12:25 am

The Patriots unleashed a powerful running attack on the Buffalo Bills last week, rolling up 183 yards on the ground.  Look for Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon to attack the interior of the Jets defense.  Also look for Tom Brady to throw the ball more frequently this week.  The Patriots really don’t have a deep threat to run play-action off of, but Brady should be able to complete a ton of short passes to multiple receivers this week.

The Jets would like to run the ball, but Derrick Blaylock, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston will have rough sledding against the interior of the Pats’ defense.  Chad Pennington will try to duplicate his performance of last week against the Titans, but it will be tougher for him against the Patriots secondary.

I look for the Jets to play a tough game, but the Patriots are still vastly superior talen-wise to the Jets and it will show on the scoreboard.

Patriots trade Deion Branch to the Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 September 2006 at 8:22 pm

The Patriots traded their top receiver from last season Deion Branch to the Seahawks for Seattle’s first round pick in 2007.  It will be a low pick because the Seahawks are a good team.  This was a bad decision by Belichick, and Tom Brady can’t possibly be happy right now.  The Patriots better keep running the ball well, because they’re receiving corps will be weak all season long.

Patriots defense and running game propel them to 19-17 victory

It almost seemed like the Patriots were sleepwalking yesterday and still beat the Bills.  Tom Brady didn’t play that great connecting on 11 of 23 passes (47.8%) for 163 yards with 2 TDs and an interception.  Rookie RB Laurence Maroney carried the ball 17 times for 86 yards (5.1 ypc).  Corey Dillon also had a good game carrying the ball 16 times for 73 yards (4.6 ypc) and catching 2 passes for 22 yards.  Old vet Kevin Faulk carried the ball 3 times for 21 yards and caught 1 pass for 17 yards and it was a TD.  TE Ben Watson caught 3 passes for 50 yards and Troy Brown caught 2 passes for 18 yards and a TD.

Junior Seau looked good and had 8 tackles.  Mike Vrabel also had 8 tackles.  The safeties were all over the field too.  Rodney Harrison had 9 tackles and Eugene Wilson had 8.  DE Ty Warren essentially won the game for the Pats when he sacked QB JP Losman in the end-zone to give the Pats their final two points of the contest.

The Bills ran for 99 yards on 24 carries (4.1 ypc).  The Pats allowed the Bills to complete 65.2% of their passes but only for 140 net yards thru the air.

The game was ugly, but still a win for the Patriots.
