1. (24) Brandon Meriweather, S
The Patriots needed to inject some youth into their defense and they decided to pick safety Brandon Meriweather from the Miami Hurricanes. Meriweather can handle either safety job and he can also play corner if the Patriots need him to. He’s a little small at 5′10″, 192 pounds but he makes up for it by playing hard at all times. Meriweather also is very fast as he runs a 40 in 4.45 seconds. In 49 games for Miami (31 starts), Meriweather has made 256.5 tackles, broke up 25 passes, has 7 interceptions (45 return yards), forced 4 fumbles and recovered 1 fumble. The Patriots are banking on him behaving because he would have been picked higher if he was a better citizen off of the field. This was a good pick by the Patriots and they will make sure that Meriweather acts his age.
