On Saturday Night the Patriots achieved perfection but the Giants put up a very spirited fight.  Tom Brady was outstanding as usual as he completed 32 of 42 passes for 356 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  His 2nd TD pass was his 50th of the season breaking the NFL’s all-time record which was held by Peyton Manning.  Randy Moss caught both of Brady’s TD passes and the 2nd one was his 23rd of the season breaking Jerry Rice’s all-time record.  The Pats didn’t have much of a running game against the Giants but it was led by Laurence Maroney who had 46 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.4 ypc) but he scored 2 TDs.  Kevin Faulk didn’t add anything to the running game but he caught 8 passes for 64 yards (8.0 avg) and most of them were clutch.  Wes Welker had another outstanding game as he led the Patriots with 11 catches for 122 yards (11.1 avg) in this game.  Randy Moss had another stellar effort with 6 catches for 100 yards (16.7 avg) with 2 TDs.  The Patriotes finished up with 44 yards rushing on 26 carries (1.7 ypc) and they also completed 32 of 42 passes for 346 yards.

The Defense was led by safety Brandon Meriweather (7 tackles) and Ellis Hobbs (6 tackles and a big interception).  The Giants finished up with 79 yards rushing on 19 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 32 passes for 237 yards.

The Patriots decided to balance the offense a little more in this game but the result was the same……another victory.  Tom Brady completed 18 of 33 passes for 215 yards with 3 TD passes and 2 interceptions.  Laurence Maroney was outstanding as he carried the ball 14 times for 156 yards (11.1 ypc) with a TD run.  Jabar Gaffney (5 rec, 82 yards, TD), Randy Moss (5 rec, 50 yards, 2 TDs) and Wes Welker (5 rec, 49 yards) all pitched in for the Patriots passing game.  The Patriots finished up with 196 yards rushing on 25 carries (7.8 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 33 passes for 204 yards.

Tedy Bruschi (9 tackles) and Mike Vrabel (5 tackles, 2 interceptions) led the Patriots on defense.  The Dolphins finished up with 108 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 41 passes for 133 yards.

The Patriots found the Jets to be a little tougher than they thought they would be in some tough weather conditions.  Tom  Brady had his worst game of the season as he completed 14 of 27 passes for 140 yards with a interception.  Laurence Maroney had a good game as he picked Brady up with 26 carries for 104 yards (4.0 ypc).  Kevin Faulk also had a solid game with 4 carries for 20 yards (5.0 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg).  Randy Moss led the way for the receivers on the Patriots with 5 catches for 79 yards (15.8 avg).  The Patriots finished up with 131 yards rushing on 35 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 27 passes for 134 yards.

The defense was led by linebackers Adalius Thomas (9 tackles, 1.5 sacks) and Junior Seau (9 tackles, 2 sacks) on Sunday.  Safety Eugene Wilson only made 1 tackle but he returned a interception 5 yards for a TD in the first quarter of this game.  The Jets finished up with 90 yards rushing on 17 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 40 passes for 146 yards.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Thursday 13 December 2007 at 12:21 am

This game has the potential to be the biggest beat down of the season as the Patriots will be inspired again.  “Spygate” has to be in Coach Belichick’s mind and he will have his team relentless in trying to run up the score in this game.

The Jets might have a chance to keep the game closer than the 25-pointspread as long as Thomas Jones has a good game running the ball.  Teams only are averaging 99.6 yards rushing per game against the Patriots this season but they are allowing 4.3 yards per carry so the Jets should be able to run the ball some.  They need to run the ball well or the Patriots are going to bring the dogs against QB Kellen Clemens and the results will be ugly.

The Patriots will probably run the ball a tad more than usual as the Jets are allowing 141.9 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  So, look for Laurence Maroney to have a solid game this Sunday.  Tom Brady has been amazing this season (123.5 QB Rating) and he should have no trouble moving the football around to take advantage of the Jets secondary.

PREDICTION:  NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 49, NEW YORK JETS 6

New England Patriots 34, Pittsburgh Steelers 13

The Steelers talked trash all week long and the Patriots made them pay for their comments on the field yesterday as the Patriots improved to 13-0 on the season.  Tom Brady had another fantastic day as he completed 32 of 46 passes for 399 yards with 4 TD passes.  Laurence Maroney didn’t do much as he carried the ball 8 times for 28 yards (3.5 ypc).  Randy Moss (7 rec, 135 yards, 2 TDs), Jabar Gaffney (7 rec, 122 yards, TD) and Wes Welker (9 rec, 78 yards, TD) all dominated the Steelers secondary like they weren’t even there.  The Patriots finished with 22 yards rushing on 9 carries (2.4 ypc) and they also completed 32 of 46 passes for 399 yards.

The defense was led by veteran safety Rodney Harrison who had 11 tackles.  The Steelers finished up with 181 yards rushing on 32 carries (5.7 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 32 passes for 168 yards.
