New England Patriots vs. San Diego Chargers

Blogged under The Playoffs, Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Sunday 20 January 2008 at 1:31 am

The Patriots continue their march to an unbeaten record, but the Chargers will be a formidable foe.  After all they did knock out the defending World Champs on their own field last weekend.

The Chargers come into this game banged up on offense.  It looks as if Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates will all attempt to give it a go.  Rivers has been outstanding in the post season and he always plays with a chip on his shoulder.  Rivers though will be playing with a partially torn ACL so the front line better block well.  Look for the Patriots to blitz more than usual to try to rattle Rivers or knock him out of the game.  But, the Chargers could just decide to feed the ball to LaDainian Tomlinson and Michael Turner to try to control the clock and keep the ball away from the Patriots offense.

Chargers defensive end Igor Olshansky could wind up being the new Anthony Smith (Steelers safety) as he was talking trash earlier in the week.  Look for the Patriots to run a few plays his way to try to make him look bad.  It will be fun to watch the Antonio Cromartie vs. Randy Moss matchup as Tom Brady will have to be careful there.  Still, the Patriots could use Moss as a decoy again this week and spread the football around.  The Patriots will also likely run the ball more than usual if they get a lead in this game.

PREDICTION:  NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 31, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 21

I just got a sence that the pat wern’t putting on a 1st class show that they are known for. I was pleased that they had so much contravery looming around them. Why Pats will win it all.
The Patriots and Giants have met eight times in the regular season, with New England holding a 5-3 advantage. And, the Patriots have won the past four, all of them tight games.

    History 101
    1970 Giants 18, Patriots 0
    1974 Patriots 24, Giants 20
    1987 Giants 17, Patriots 10
    1990 Giants 13, Patriots 10
    1996 Patriots 23, Giants 22
    1999 Patriots 16, Giants 14
    2003 Patriots 17, Giants 6
    2007 Patriots 38, Giants 35

    History 102 …

Both the Patriots and Giants have a history filled with great moments, but who is the face of the franchise? While it would probably get a lot of arguments, we’re saying that for the Giants, it’s Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Although he had off-field problems, on the field he redefined the position. As for the Patriots, Tom Brady has become Mr. Patriot. New England obviously doesn’t have as great a history as the Giants, but Brady has taken the franchise to a new level, and the team might never look back.

    … and 103

Curious about those histories? The Patriots have put together a 366-349-9 record in the regular season and are 21-12 in the postseason with three Super Bowl titles. Their all-time passing leader is (deep breath) Drew Bledsoe with almost 30,000 yards, leading rusher is Sam Cunningham (5,453 yards) and their leading receiver was Stanley Morgan (10,352 yards). The Giants are 606-506-33 in the regular season and are 19-23 record in the postseason, including two Super Bowl titles. Phil Simms is their all-time passing leader (33,462 yards), Tiki Barber their leading rusher (10,449 yards) and Amani Toomer, who is still catching passes, their leading receiver with 8,917 yards
New England Patriots will win by 17.

I’m so excited about the New England Patriots being AFC Champions. They are going to be the world champions soon. It’s New England’s year in sports. In all my excitement I wanted a Patriots themed ringtone to spread the cheer down in south Florida and I came across this web site called www.myxer.com and it had a hilarious song from the WROR’s Tom Doyle from the Loren & Wally show about the Pats. If you want to help spread the love just go to the following link:

    Go Pats!!!
