The Patriots won this game but almost lost the war as Tom Brady was injured when DT Albert Haynesworth drove him into the ground.  Before Brady was hurt he completed 12 of 19 passes for 150 yards with 2 TD passes.  Kevin O’Connell was brutal in this game as he completed 3 of 10 passes for only 18 yards and threw 2 pickoffs.  RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis led the way for the Patriots on the ground with 49 yards on six carries (8.2 ypc).  WR Randy Moss was back in tune with Brady as he caught 6 passes for 90 yards (15.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Joey Galloway pitched in with 4 catches for 30 yards (7.5 avg) in this game.  The Patriots finished up with 277 yards of offense in this game (110 rushing, 167 passing).

LB Gary Guyton led the way for the Patriots defense in this game with 4 tackles and a sack.  CB Jonathan Wilhite was the difference maker in this game on defense as he finished with 3 tackles and he returned a pickoff 99 yards for a TD off Colt Brennan.  The Redskins did roll up 384 yards of total offense (116 rushing, 268 passing) in this game.

The New England Patriots trade C/G Ross Hochstein to the Broncos

The Patriots have traded 31-year old C/G Ross Hochstein to the Broncos for a 7th round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Hochstein played in 15 games (2 starts) for the Patriots last season.  In 7 years with the Patriots, Hochstein appeared in 91 games (20 starts).  It appears that the Patriots love trading with ex-executives and coaches which has given them quite a few extra draft picks for next year.  This was a good trade for both teams.

The New England Patriots release Tank Williams

The Patriots have released 29-year old safety Tank Williams.  Williams played in the first two pre-season games for the Patriots and he finished with 5 tackles.  He last played during the regular season during 2007 with the Vikings.  The Patriots won’t miss him at all as they have a lot of depth in the defensive backfield.

Brady leaves game with sore shoulder

Blogged under Injury Reports by david uberti on Friday 28 August 2009 at 11:43 pm

Pats quarterback Tom Brady left Friday night’s exhibition game against the Washington Redskins with a sore right shoulder.  Brady was hit by defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth while following through on a third down pass, landing awkwardly on his right shoulder.

The three-time Super Bowl winner went to the bench after the play, rotating his throwing arm and flexing his shoulder as the first half came to a close.  Brady returned to the sidelines for the first drive of the second half, but then left for the locker room soon after.  The Patriots announced his injury as a sore shoulder in the fourth.

Despite the scare for New England players and coaches, Brady seems to be back to his old ways after missing 15 games last season with a torn ACL.  Before Haynesworth’s hit, he was 12 of 19, throwing for 150 yards and two scores.
