The New England Patriots sign a couple of players

The Patriots have signed G/C Darnell Stapleton and CB DeAngelo Willingham.  The 24-year old Stapleton last played in the NFL in 2008 with the Steelers.  He has played in 14 games (12 starts) in his NFL career and he has nice size at 6′3″, 305 pounds.  The Patriots need help at guard right now so I like this signing for them.  23-year old DeAngelo Willingham will provide help on special teams and depth in the secondary if he makes the team.

UPDATE:  (8/11/2010) - The Patriots have released Darnell Stapleton already.

The New England Patriots sign C/G Eric Ghiaciuc

The Patriots have signed 29-year old C/G Eric Ghiaciuc.  He has nice size at 6′4″, 303 pounds and he can handle any of the interior positions on the O-Line.  He last played in 2008 with the Bengals.  Ghiaciuc has now played in 48 games (42 starts) in his four years in the NFL.  This was a solid signing for the Patriots as Ghiaciuc will give them some depth on the inside of the O-Line.

The New England Patriots sign DT Gerard Warren

The Patriots have signed DT Gerard Warren.  The 31-year old played in all 16 games for the Raiders last season and he had 35 tackles, 2 sacks, he had 3 tackles for a loss and he defensed 1 pass.  Warren has now played in 135 games in his NFL career and he has made 295 tackles, he has defensed 13 passes, has 32 sacks and he has forced 7 fumbles.  Warren will probably backup Vince Wilfork in 2010 giving him a breather once in a while.

The New England Patriots sign DT Amon Gordon

The Patriots have signed 28-year old DT Amon Gordon.  He last played in the NFL with the Titans during the 2008 season.  Gordon has played in 13 games in his NFL career and he has 29 tackles and he has forced 1 fumble.  Gordon was just signed for depth as he will have a hard time making the team this fall.

UPDATE:  (6/10/2010) - The Patriots have released Gordon.

The New England Patriots sign Torry Holt

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Pats News, General by admin on Tuesday 20 April 2010 at 1:12 pm

The Patriots have signed 33-year old WR Torry Holt to a 1-year, $1.7 million dollar deal.  Holt played in 15 games for the Jaguars last season in which he caught 51 passes for 722 yards (14.2 avg) but he didn’t catch any TDs.  Holt has now played in 173 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 920 passes for 13,382 yards (14.5 avg) with 74 TD grabs.  Holt is #11 all-time in receptions, #10 in receiving yards and he is tied for #27 in TD receptions with Nat Moore in NFL History.  The Patriots hope that Holt will give them another weapon in the passing game to offset the late start to the 2010 season of Wes Welker.
