The Patriots gave the Chargers just enough rope to hang themselves and that’s exactly what they did in this game.  The Patriots’ D was very opportunistic as the Chargers kept turning the ball over giving Tom Brady short fields to work with.  LBs Jared Mayo (11 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and Gary Guyton (9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Patriots on D in this game.  Safety James Sanders (fumble recovery), LB Rob Ninkovich (fumble recovery) and CB Devin McCourty (interception) also made huge plays for the Patriots today.  The Chargers finished up with 38 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.0 ypc) and they also completed 34 of 50 passes for 325 yards.

Tom Brady was a game manager and little more in this game as he completed 19 of 32 passes for 159 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  Benjarvus Green-Ellis (11 carries, 24 yards, TD) and Danny Woodhead (8 carries for 24 yards and 3 receptions for 28 yards) led the way for the Patriots on the ground in this game.  Rookie TEs Aaron Hernandez (5 rec, 54 yards) and Rob Gronkowski (2 rec, 10 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Patriots.  The Patriots finished up with 51 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.3 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 32 passes for 128 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 25:35.  The Patriots are now 5-1 on the season.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski finished off the Ravens in this game with a 35-yard field goal with 1:56 left in the overtime period.  Tom Brady was solid as usual in completing 27 of 44 passes for 292 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Danny Woodhead was pretty effective for the Patriots in this game as he carried the ball 11 times for 63 yards (5.7 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 52 yards (10.4 avg).  BenJarvus Green-Ellis pitched in on the ground with 20 yards rushing on 10 carries (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD carry.  Deion Branch looked like he never left the Patriots today as he led the way in the passing game with 9 grabs for 98 yards (10.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  TE Aaron Hernandez (4 rec, 61 yards and 1 carry for 18 yards) and WR Wes Welker (7 rec, 53 yards) also pitched in for the Patriots in the passing game today.  The Patriots finished up with 127 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 44 passes for 267 yards.

The Patriots gave up a lot of yards today but it didn’t matter in the end.  LB Jared Mayo (18 tackles), LB Brandon Spikes (14 tackles) safety Patrick Chung (13 tackles) and LB Rob Ninkovich (8 tackles, 2 QB hits) led the way for the Patriots in this game on D.  The Ravens finished up with 99 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 35 passes for 278 yards.  The Patriots are now 4-1 on the year.

The Patriots were losing this game 7-6 at the half but things changed quickly thanks to the special teams.  Brandon Tate returned the opening kickoff 103 yards for a TD for the Patriots and they never looked back.  Starting safety Patrick Chung blocked a punt that sent up a score and he also blocked a field goal that was recovered by CB Kyle Arrington who returned it 35 yards for a TD!  The special teams was the big reason for the blowout last night!

Tom Brady was in game manager mode as he completed 19 of 24 passes for 153 yards with 1 TD pass last night.  BenJarvus Green-Ellis was solid on the ground for the Patriots in this game with 16 carries for 76 yards (4.8 ypc) with a TD run.  Danny Woodhead was also very productive for the Patriots last night with 8 carries for 46 yards (4.5 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 11 yards which went for a TD.  Wes Welker (8 rec, 70 yards) and Brandon Tate (4 rec, 39 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Patriots last night.  The Patriots finished up with 119 yards rushing on 32 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 24 passes for 146 yards last night.

The defense gave up a lot of yards last night but it’s a tad misleading as they also made a lot of big plays.  LB Jared Mayo led the way for the Patriots in this game with 16 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  CB Kyle Arrington (7 tackles) and Safety Patrick Chung (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed and a interception that he returned 51 yards for a TD) also had big games for the Patriots.  Linebacker Rob Ninkovich also turned in a incredible game for the Patriots last night with 4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 2 passes defensed, 1 QB hit and 2 interceptions!  The Dolphins finished up with 95 yards rushing on 20 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 31 of 45 passes for 305 yards.  The Patriots are now 3-1 on the season after this huge road division win.

The offense covered up for the D and special teams for the Patriots yesterday.  Tom Brady completed 21 of 27 passes for 253 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Benjarvus Green-Ellis led the way on the ground for the Patriots yesterday with 16 carries for 98 yards (6.1 ypc) with a TD run.  Danny Woodhead made a good first impression for the Patriots yesterday with 3 carries for 42 yards (14.0 ypc) with a TD run.  Rookie TEs Rob Gronkowski (3 rec, 43 yards, TD) and Aaron Hernandez (6 rec, 65 yards) led the way for the Patriots in this game.  Randy Moss only caught 2 passes but they each went for TDs covering 42 total yards.  The Patriots finished up with 200 yards rushing on 38 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 27 passes for 245 yards.

The game was a tale of two halves as the Patriots were winning this game 14-10 at the half before they were shut out 18-0 in the second half.  Tom Brady completed 20 of 36 passes for 248 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs in this game.  Kevin Faulk led the way on the ground for the Patriots with 22 yards rushing on 5 carries (4.4 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 15 yards.  BenJarvus Green-Ellis (10 carries, 19 yards) and Fred Taylor (5 carries, 11 yards) both had a hard time getting anything going on the ground for the Patriots in this game.  Rookie TE Aaron Hernandez played a outstanding game for the Patriots catching 6 passes for 101 yards (16.8 avg).  WRs Wes Welker (6 rec, 38 yards, TD) and Randy Moss (2 rec, 38 yards, TD) both scored but neither of them had their usual impact.  The Patriots finished up with 52 yards rushing on 20 carries (2.6 ypc) and they completed 20 of 36 passes for 239 yards.

LBs Brandon Spikes (9 tackles) and Tully Banta-Cain (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and a QB hit) led the way for the Patriots on D.  DE Gerard Warren was also busy in this game with 2 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 QB hits and 2 sacks.  The Jets finished up with 136 yards rushing on 32 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 30 passes for 200 yards.  The Patriots are now 1-1 on the season after this tough loss.

The Patriots won this game in all three phases against the Bengals.  The Patriots rushed out to a 24-3 lead at the half.  Then on the opening kickoff of the second half, Brandon Tate returned it 97 yards for a TD essentially ending this game.  Tom Brady was awesome as usual as he completed 25 of 35 passes for 258 yards with 3 TD passes in this game.  Fred Taylor led the way on the ground for the Patriots in this game with 14 carries for 71 yards (5.1 ypc).  Kevin Faulk pitched in with 3 carries for 23 yards (7.7 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 47 yards (11.8 avg) yesterday.  Wes Welker caught 8 passes for 64 yards with 2 TD grabs in this game which was a great sight to see for the Patriots and their fans.  Brandon Tate was also a game changer with 4 receptions for 36 yards (9.0 avg).  But he also returned 4 kickoffs for 184 yards (46.0 avg) with a TD return (97 yards) often setting up the offense with good starting position.  The Patriots finished up with 118 yards rushing on 23 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 35 passes for 258 yards in this game.

Safety Patrick Chung led the way for the Patriots’ D in this game with 16 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  LB Jared Mayo was also very busy with 12 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  LB Gary Guyton pitched in with 2 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception that he returned 59 yards for a TD.  The Bengals finished up with 87 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.5 ypc) and they completed 34 of 50 passes for 341 yards in this game.  The Patriots got a nice win at home yesterday to start the season 1-0.

Baltimore Ravens 33, New England Patriots 14

The Patriots must have forgot when the game started yesterday as the Ravens thumped them 24-0 in the first quarter and that was way too big of a hole for even Tom Brady to bring them back from.  Tom Brady had probably his worst playoff game of his career as he completed 23 of 42 passes for 154 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 INTs.  Kevin Faulk was busy yesterday as he carried the ball 14 times for 52 yards (3.7 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 37 yards (6.2 avg).  Randy Moss led the Patriots in receiving yards yesterday with 48 on 5 grabs (9.6 avg).  But, Julian Edelman was the star of the offense for the Patriots yesterday with 6 catches for 44 yards (7.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  The Patriots finished up with only 196 total yards on offense (64 rushing, 132 passing) in this game.

The Patriots got pushed around pretty good by the Ravens’ O-Line yesterday and it really hurt them.  NT Vince Wilfork led the way for the Patriots on D with 13 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  OLB Tully Banta-Cain pitched in with 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  The Ravens finished up with 268 total yards on offense (234 rushing, 34 passing) in this game.  What a thud the Patriots’ season ended with at home yesterday as the Ravens punished them in their own house.

Houston Texans 34, New England Patriots 27

The Texans scored the last 21 points in this game putting the Patriots away.  The Patriots could never really decide whether or not they wanted to win this game or not as they kept switching QBs during the game.  Tom Brady was so-so when he played as he completed 17 of 26 passes for 186 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Brian Hoyer also got some P.T. in this game as he completed 8 of 12 passes for 71 yards and he also carried the ball 1 time for 10 yards.  Fred Taylor led the way on the ground for the Patriots yesterday with 33 yards rushing on 7 carries (4.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs but he also lost a fumble in the end zone which resulted in a TD for the Texans.  BenJarvus Green-Ellis pitched in with 22 yards rushing on 4 carries (5.5 ypc) in this game.  Julian Edelman led the way in the passing game for the Patriots yesterday with 10 grabs for 103 yards (10.3 avg).  Randy Moss also had a decent game with 5 catches for 75 yards (15.0 avg) yesterday.  Wes Welker caught 1 pass for 12 yards in this game but he tore his ACL when making a cut ending his season and that will really hurt the Patriots.  The Patriots finished up with 317 total yards on offense (74 rushing, 243 passing) in this game.

Safeties James Sanders (11 tackles) and Brandon Meriweather (10 tackles) were really busy for the Patriots yesterday on D.  DE Derrick Burgess also had a solid game for the Patriots yesterday with 9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 3 QB hits.  CB Darius Butler only had 2 tackles and he defensed 1 pass but he also intercepted a pass that he returned 91 yards for a TD.  The Texans finished up with 439 total yards on offense (144 rushing, 295 passing) in this game.  The Patriots finished the season as the AFC East Champs with a 10-6 record and they will play the Ravens next week in the playoffs.

New England Patriots 35, Jacksonville Jaguars 7

The Patriots completely destroyed the Jaguars yesterday at Foxboro.  Tom Brady was awesome completing 23 of 26 passes for 267 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Sammy Morris led the way on the ground for the Patriots last night with 95 yards rushing on 12 carries (7.9 ypc) with a TD run.  Fred Taylor (11 car, 35 yards), Laurence Maroney (5 car, 22 yards) and Kevin Faulk (6 car, 41 yards) all pitched in for the Patriots who owned the line of scrimmage in this game.  Wes Welker led the way in the passing game with 13 grabs for 138 yards (10.6 avg) yesterday.  Randy Moss was also very effective catching 4 passes for 45 yards (11.3 avg) with 3 TD grabs!  TE Chris Baker pitched in with 2 catches for 32 yards (16.0 avg) with a TD grab.  The Patriots finished up with 464 total yards on offense (197 rushing, 267 passing) in this game.

New England Patriots 17, Buffalo Bills 10

Blogged under Big Pats News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps by Andrew on Monday 21 December 2009 at 11:04 pm

The New England Patriots (9-5) didn’t play their best on Sunday, but they did enough to beat the Buffalo Bills (5-9).  Randy Moss was probably the Patriots top offensive player, coming off a week where people claimed he quit on plays.  Moss caught 5 passes for 70 yards and 1 touchdown.  It was one of only two touchdowns for the Patriots who managed to get only 224 total yards on the day.  Tom Brady looked was off and threw for only 115 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception on 11/23 passes.  Laurence Maroney ran the ball pretty well, rushing for 81 yards and 1 touchdown on 23 carries.

This was more of a defensive game, and the Patriots defense held down the Bills very well.  The Bills offense put up some similar numbers as the Pats offense.  The Bills were only able to get 241 total yards and the Pats defense held them to 136 passing yards.  They had a hard time with Fred Jackson though, as he rushed for 80 yards on only 15 carries.  This wasn’t exactly a pretty game for either side, but the Patriots got the win.  It was only their second road win of the year.
